Getting Tethering to Work with iPhone 3.0 and OSX June 13, 2009

Re-post From Kossome (http://www.mediasplash.net/kossome/?q=node/62):

”This worked like a charm for me and many of my friends. If you don’t already have 3.0, it’s easy to find online. If not, don’t do this yet.
Do this at your own risk. I haven’t heard of any problems using this technique, but I am not responsible for any “hacking” you do to your own iPhone.
Download this older developer beta version of iTunes
  Download these carrier settings
Make sure there is no .zip extension on the second file after download. Sometimes Safari interprets this as a compressed file, so take it off. Sometimes you have to hit Apple-I to REALLY change it. The icon should not be a zip icon. It should be a blank icon.

Move your iTunes Library to another location for now. Delete the iTunes program and restart your computer. Install this beta version of iTunes and connect your iPhon e. Option-Click on the “Check for updates” button. Select the Carrier file (ipcc file) and iTunes will send it to the phone. It won’t give you any instruction, so just reset the phone when it’s done. After that, go to your phone and select Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network> and enter these settings. Leave everything else bla` nk…

  APN: wap.cingular
  Username: wap@cingulargprs.com
  Password: CINGULAR1

  MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
  MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32

Under Network Settings you should now have the option to enable tethering. You should also have MMS working as well of your plan is set up for MMS. If not… good l uck on the phone with them. You can install the current iTunes if you want and put your library back at any time.

NOTE: Sometimes the tethering options disappear. Select the IPCC file again in iTunes and it should reappear without restarting.

  Stay Tuned for more updates.”

Thinking of Moving Back to WordPress June 11, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — rjmancuso @ 11:24 pm

I am thinking of moving back to wordpress for my website. However I will probably just use posterous to post simultaneously to wordpress and tumblr, especially since I have been finding less and less time to blog. Not sure if it is a good idea or a bad one. What does everyone think? Leave some comments.

Tweetie For Mac OS X June 11, 2009

Filed under: Social Media, Technology, Twitter — rjmancuso @ 11:11 pm

Finally, the moment we have all been waiting for….The Release Of Tweetie For Mac OS X by Atebits, and you’ll be able to find a full fledged review here. I have had the chance to try out Tweetie for the past couple of days, and it is absolutely amazing, definitely going to be the widest used desktop client on Twitter. Here are some of the features and some screen shots from Tweetie for OS X:

Tweetie Main View

Above is the main screen of Tweetie when you first start it up. Tweet supports multiple accounts, and each user photo is shown on the left hand side.Once you click on that sepcific user photo, a few other views come up in this order: Timeline, Mentions, Direct Messages, and a Search Option.

Mentions View

Above is the Mentions view.

DM View

Above is the Direct Messages screen. It automatically sorts the messages into who you have received them from, and it also shows the amount of DM’s (both sent and received to and from that specific person)

Search Screen

The search screen allows you to search for a specific search term, and view all the recent Tweets containing the specific search term.

Specific Timeline

You can also view a specific user’s timeline by clicking on the user’s name in the main timeline.

Profile Info

If you click on the info button, you can view tht specific user’s profile information. Also, if you notice, the user is notified with blue dots when you have received new tweets.

Preferences

Above is the prefernces screen. You can choose between Display Name and Full Name, a various amount font sizes; bit.ly, TinyURL, is.gd, tr.im, and the recently released DiggBar for URL Shortening Services. You can also choose between yFrog, TwitPic, Twitgoo, and Posterous for image posting services. You can also add and remove Twitter accounts and change the below options under the “Advanced” Preferences.

Advanced Prefernces

Register

If you click Tweetie and then Register, you can buy the Ad-Free version of Tweetie, as the free version has occasional Ads by Fusionads.net. A license is $14.95 USD, which will increase to $19.95 after May 4, 2009 I am not sure how many people will purchase the application at such as price, but it is not too much. More people are likely to purchase a more moderately priced Twitter App, while much less people are likely to pay $15 for something you can get for free with a few ads, especially with the current state of the economy; but who knows it is still a great app!

Below Are a Few Other Views of Tweetie for Mac:

Tweetie has built in support for TwitPic and other Picture Posting Services for Twitter, which allows you to open the image without leaving the application (a very nice feature)

If you press [Command N] a new Tweet box will appear with options to change the user, post an image, and shorten a URL.

Tweetie Dock Icon

An icon also appears in the task bar which brings the application to the front.
